About this Item

London: Collins, 1982. First edition. A fine copy in orange boards with gilt spine lettering and two nifty maps of America's Western territories in 1849 and 1876 serving as endpapers, in a fine, wraparound pictorial dustwrapper showing the redoubtable Flashman with various American Indians, Custer, and a lovely Indian princess (naturally). In this, Fraser's seventh novel in the series, we find Flashman fleeing New Orleans with a famous madam, Miss Susie. They cross the continent to join the California Gold Rush, meeting several well-known personalities of the American West in 1849 and 1850. The story resumes in 1875-1876, when he takes part in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Lots of droll humor, a temporary third bride for Flashman (an Apache princess), some visits with Geronimo, and other Flashman hijinks which make him so popular with readers.
