First edition (not stated but with Rinehart's requisite colophon on the copyright page) SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [6], 278 pages. Hardcover: H 21.25cm x L 14.25cm. Dust jacket front panel and spine illustrated by John McCrady; dj well rubbed, some shallow chipping at spine and flap fold ends, nicks and short tears along panel edges, patch of surface abrasion to front panel immediately underneath the title lettering near top right, soiled white rear panel has two shallow chips along top edge, abrasion and tears along joints and flap folds, top corner of front flap is price-clipped; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Tan boards, spine slightly cocked with gilt stamped lettering still bright, mild moisture stains at top and bottom corners of front board with light bumping at top left corner. Deckle fore-edge; some toning to edges with several small slender brown stains upon fore-edge. Light toning to endpapers. Interior pages are clean. FLOOD CREST was the third book by William Hodding Carter II (1907-1972), famed Pulitzer Prize-winning editor of the Greenville, Mississippi Delta Democrat Times and owner of New Orleans-based Pelican Publishing House.
