740 pgs. total (1855 322 pgs, 1856 372 pgs., 1856 Almanack 36 pgs.). Blue marbled HC paper boards with half calf bindings, gilt font on spine. Some light rubbing on corners, spine leather is cracked but intact. Hinges are strong, but back hinge is split. Foxing on ffep's only where they contact the leather corners. Very minor foxing througout book, title page completely intact with no foxing. Only one b&w botanical plate left. Page 52, Discorea Batatas (Chinese Yam). Moderate foxing on plate. Interesting reading, especially about finding a replacement for the ubiqutious irish potato. This was just after the great potato famine and failure of 1848. Lots of plates showing garden and yard layouts. Unusual autograph plate showing 21 names of "Autographs of Eminent Gardiners & Naturalists" with a brief note about each one in the back. Names include : Philip Miller, Batty Langley, Dr. Daniel Solander, Sir John Hill, Thomas Pennant, Peter Collinson, Carolus Linnaeus, Mr. Curtis, Sir Hans Sloane, Joseph Sabine, John Evelyn, Latreille, Francis Willoughby, J. C. London, Tournefort, Sir Joseph Banks, Thomas Beswick, Cuvier, Buffon, A. G. Werner, & The Abbe de St. Pierre. No DJ as issued. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 000092
