Three volumes in six divisions, complete, totalling over 1100 pages (the pagination and text continuous within each of the three volumes), 46 chromolithographic plates (most with tissue guards), numerous black & white text figures (a few full page), the title pages printed in red & black, floral patterned endpapers, index; demy 4to; light blue/grey cloth over bevelled boards, spines lettered in gilt, the upper boards decorated in red & black, the cloth slightly flecked or soiled, edges lightly worn, a couple of small surface grazes or scars; a.e.g.; endpapers slightly offset, hinges starting at a couple of points, some of the tissue guards creased or lightly worn, a little light foxing and soiling; Virtue, London, n.d.[1897]. *Bound in at the end of the final volume are spare title pages for each volume, plus a preface (dated 1897), contents pages, and lists of illustrations for each volume.
