About this Item

A Belgian manufacturer with roots to 1649. Centered around Liege, Belgium there has long been a co-operative weapons manufacturing effort among various centres - e.g. Herstal, Rhees, Vottem, and Jupille. These 198 pages examine that history - from the 1777 flintlock musket to the ergonomic Machine-Pistol P90. Along the way the company also manufactured: cartridges, lorries, motorcars, tennis rackets, aircraft engines, and motorcycles. World history intervened twice in 1914 and 1939. TEXT assisted by both colour and (archive) b/w photographs. LEARN more about : Bon Metier de Febvres, mud-grips, Gustave Joassart, Bofors, master engraver Felix Funken, Albert Canal, Skeet-Max, Miss J. Thibesar, Larzac, BRG15, and Michel Vandestrick. Cond : Boards are bright red with no lettering or graphics. End-papers are pictorial. D.J. (now protected in mylar) is white with red lettering. D.J. graphic involves a broken-breech hunting rifle (with gold inlay) and a 1920s roadster. Volume is bright , tight and clean in ALL aspects. D.J. has three tears of less than 1" each. No stains, no names, no marks, no bumps. EXCELLENT giftable reference !! Quote (p. 96) : "The manufacture of hunting weapons certainly developed in a less spectacular way than that of armaments but nevertheless with a regularity which from an economic point of view was no less satisfactory. In this respect, two characteristics have typified these . .". Bookseller Inventory # 005491
