Description:

Presumed first edition (no direct English statement provided). 52 pages. Hardcover: H 36.5cm x L 26.25cm. No dust jacket. Olive green cloth spine with yellow stamped lettering, slight fraying at ends and slender soiling above center of front joint; toning and soiling to paper covered boards, slender wear to paper at board corners and particularly along rear board's fore-edge. Toning to front endpapers and rear free endpaper; non-authorial four-line ink gift inscription dated 1973 at top of front free endpaper; light toning and a few spots of soiling to interior pages which, overall, remain clean. Binding is firm. A good+ copy. Title provided on front board only as page 1 immediately initiates the book's content as color illustrated instructions (no text) for origami-folding on versos with opposing rectos featuring color illustrations and English-French-Japanese word equivalents for the intended paper design; total of twenty-six instructions and opposing illustrations organized A-Z, i.e. Albatross to Insect to Kimono to Lantern to Nest to Zebra etc. Laid-in between pages 15-16 are blank sheets for folding presumably left by past owner and not as issued. Rear free endpaper recto has tipped-in paper slip with English-Japanese copyright statement citing only the Tokyo firm Dainippon Yubenkai Kodansha which is unusual as it does not mention Rutland, Vermont's Charles E. Tuttle Publishing Company who was involved in the publication and/or distribution of innumerable Japanese-themed books exported to the U.S. during both the pre- and post-WWII periods. However, Tuttle did re-issue Sarasas' book in 1964 under the title "The ABC's of Origami: Paper-Folding for Children.". Bookseller Inventory #
