About this Item

First printing; 4to; vi & 193 pages; with 100 duotone plates (mostly full-page); hardback: black cloth, with five designs in white on front; there is very slight foxing to endpapers, and very slight spotting to top edges, and slight signs of its having been read, but otherwise this is a very good copy in a fine dust-jacket. A collection of magnificent photographs taken by Frank Hurley between 1920 and 1923, which show a way of life totally unspoilt by the white man's influence. Frank Hurley is, of course, more well remembered as the official photographer of both Mawson's and Shackleton's Antarctic expeditions of 1911 and 1914-16. Bookseller Inventory # 005004
