First edition. INSCRIBED, "To W. W. How(e)s / Regards of Franklin D. Roosevelt." A nice association as William Washington Howes served under Roosevelt as Second and First Assistant Postmaster General from 1933 to 1940. Howes brought airmail service to the Midwest. Previously, he was a member of the South Dakota Senate, Chairman of the South Dakota Democratic Party and a member of the Democratic National Committee. He is reported to have been very influential in helping FDR win the midwest. Near fine with minor professional restoration at spine; in very attractive, about very good dust jacket with light edge rubbing, touch of light soiling, and few tears (internally mended with archival tape).
