16mo. (18 cm.) 188p. Frontispiece engraving plus two other full-page engravings signed EJW (designer unknown). Brown cloth with designs in blind and gilt on the front cover and with gilt letters and designs on the spine. Gilt vignette on the front cover is of a large seashell over which are superimposed crossed oars. Wear to extremities with the corners just rubbed through, top and bottom of spine frayed with a bit of loss at the top, gilt slightly dulled but most all there, previous owner's signature (c.j. Conklin), else very good and better with no internal markings. No dust jacket as issued. Born in 1836, Mrs. M.F. Butts [Mary Frances Barker] was an author and poet. Among other titles, most published by the American Tract Society, are the following: NELLIE'S NEW HOME (1881), FROLIC ON A JOURNEY (1882), FROLIC LEFT OUT, OR COUNTRY CHILDREN (1886), GRANDMOTHER MERWIN'S HEIRESS (1889) and AFTER PLAY STORIES (1894). FROLIC AT THE SEASIDE "goes on with the history of 'Frolic and her Friends' and 'Frolic at Maplegrove.' Frolic, whose name is Florence Stanton, has left her brother and sister and cousins at Maplegrove, while she goes to the seaside with her papa and mamma and her little brother Bably Blue-Eyes.
