Limited Signed Edition. Translated by Marianne Moore. Number 373 of 400 copies, signed by the translator, of which 300 copies were for sale. This is not one of the copies signed on limitation page but it has a nice initialized inscription by Moore dated in the month the book was published: " For Mary K. Woodworth - from, M.M. and the pelican! who is fond of both Miss W. and the regal bird. May 17, 1954". Woodworth was the author of "The Literary Career of Sir Samuel Egerton Brydges." In red full cloth cover boards with gold gilt titles, clean with light wear. . Interior is clean and unmarked. In the publisher's heavy glassine dust jacket, with a 2 inch chip missing from the top edge of the back panel. Lacking the original cardboard slipcase. Binding is solid. This is a scarce limited edition of the work of the 18th-century French author. Marianne Moore was an American Modernist poet and writer noted for her irony and wit. Bookseller Inventory # 003242
