About this title
Faith of Our Fathers is a sequel to Soldier Boys, the story of six lifelong friends from small-town Canada who volunteer to fight Nazi Germany in World War II. While Soldier Boys tells the story of fighting men during times of war, Faith of Our Fathers relates how these same men return home to fight lonely and personal battles with other enemies -- doubt, survivor guilt, and traumatic shock. As James Jones did in Whistle, G. F. McCauley portrays tormented war veterans, one in particular whose son must come to terms with the emotional and spiritual legacy of his father.
Soldier Boys was praised by veterans as a true-to-life portrait of those hellish days in Northwest Europe; Faith of Our Fathers will resonate among the loved ones of those who have come home from more recent conflicts in faraway places, among them Bosnia and Afghanistan.
G. F. McCauley is a native of Cochrane, Ontario, where he began his working career as a young man digging ditches with what was then known as the Ontario Department of Highways. Since those early days, his vocational incarnations have been many, including a stint as a Member of Parliament. He has also served with the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Veterans Review and Appeal Board. He lives in Ottawa with Máire O'Callaghan and their cats, Sierra and Sadie.
