About this Item

Pamphlet. Lacking any wraps that may have been issued. 12 pp. Double columned text. A speech speaking out against religious crazes and false revivals in the practice of religion through 'fanatical' prayer, pointing out the underlying message in religious faith and teaching that should not change with the latest ideas. Theodore Parker was a preacher, Transcendentalist and abolitionist, and considered controversial for his criticism of many aspects of the bible, including miracles, as well as for his ardent anti-slavery stance in which he advocated violating the Fugitive Slave Act. Parker was indicted but not convicted of harboring fugitive slaves. GOOD condition. Heavy darkening and offsetting along the edges, with minor to moderate soiling. Pencil notation on the upper left front cover. Corners curled and creased, with some tearing along the spine. Minor toning in the interior. Bookseller Inventory # 008409
