About this Item

Full leather with titles in gilt on black panels on spine with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers and edges. Some edge, corner and surface wear and minor damage near bottom of spine. View scan. Some toning, mainly on endpapers; very little foxing. Book is square and binding secure. There is a small (1 inch square) personal library sticker showing where the book was shelved in the former owner's library. There is a bookplate on the front pastedown for Lord Walsingham, so the book may be from that gentleman's library. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 444 pages; This set is notably edited by Thomas Bowdler, from whom we get the word "bowdlerize." Bowdler removed or changed those words and passages that he thought might be offensive to tender sensibilities. Rather famous edition of Shakespeare's work. This volume includes: Henry VIII, Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens and Coriolanus. I have six of the eight volumes of this set listed. Inquire for a discount if you wish to buy all six.
