About this Item

405 pages. Softcover. Good condition. LAW. A condensation of The life of Sir Edward Marshall Hall. Marshall Hall was a spectacular figure in many of the most famous murder trials staged at the Old Bailey early in the twentieth century. His powers of oratory and cross-examination made him a widely-sought advocate, and he played a leading role in such celebrated cases as those of Seddon the poisoner, George Joseph Smith (who drowned his brides ina bath), the Green Bicycle Mystery and the Field and Gray murder on the Eastbourne beach. His dynamic style of defense secured several prisoners the benefit of the doubt in a jury's mind, but it also involved him in many clashes with judges who did not care for Marshall Hall's cur-and-thrust manner in court. (Key Words: Marshall Hall, Law, Edward Marjoribanks, Biography, Murder Trials, Old Bailey, London, Seddon, Poisoner, Murderers, George Joseph Smith, Green Bicycle Mystery, Field and Gray Murder, Eastbourne, Cross Examinations, Juries, Judges).
