About this Item

286404062X . Mode au temps de Figaro XVIIIe siecle. Fashion in the Time of Figaro 18th Century. French paper dolls. Clermond-Ferrand, France: L'Instant Durable/Grand Angle, 1994. 12pp. Oblong folio. Paperback. Book condition: Near fine with light bumping to corners. Unused and internally pristine. In 18th-century France, fashion was often influenced by plays, and during that period appeared the first paper figurines meant to be cut out and dressed. This book contains six cards to be cut out, with three characters and twelve costumes illustrating the trends as seen around the time of Beaumarchais' The Marriage of Figaro (1789). Also contains historical presentation and costume description in French, English, Italian and German. The English description on the rear panel contains a mistake: the translator talks about pictures of characters to be cut out others than the ones you see in "cribs". The misunderstanding comes from the word "crches" which can mean "day care" in French, but in this instance it's "crches de Nol": Nativity scenes. Bookseller Inventory # RCOMMOD00MW
