Book Description Rarebooksclub.com, United States, 2012. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 246 x 189 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1880 edition. Excerpt: .with the permission of the occupant, he laboured in calling sinners to repentance, inviting them to come to Jesus. Nor did he labour in vain. Many persons, attracted by the singing, or by the comeliness of the youthful Preacher, gathered around him, and under his earnest appeal sinners were often pricked in their hearts and led to inquire, What must I do to be saved? Many lived to be devoted, useful members of the Church, who were awakened and brought to God through the open-air preaching of this youthful evangelist. He did not pursue this course of usefulness without opposition. A brutal mob would sometimes gather, and he was often beaten and pelted by them. But he went fearlessly on with what he knew to be his duty; and God continued to stamp his work with the seal of His approval, by the awakening and conversion of sinners. He rejoiced that it was given to him not only to believe in the name of the Lord Jesus, but also to suffer for His sake. It became evident to those belonging to the Church, with whose concurrence he had thus laboured amongst the Shropshire villages and the Shropshire miners, that the young Preacher was qualified for a higher sphere of usefulness, and that the door should be opened for him to devote himself to the work of the Christian ministry. Believing that he was called of God to the work, and that a dispensation of the Gospel was committed to him, he allowed himself to be nominated for the ministerial office in the usual way; and passing satisfactorily through the customary preliminary examinations, he was recommended to the Conference to be received as a Probationer in the Wesleyan ministry. Having been accepted by the Conference, he was placed on the President s list of reserve; and a vacancy occurring in. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781236539328
