About this Item

22pp. An essay on the Fugitive Slave Law and its enforcement in Massachusetts. Thomas, expressing his disdain for the law nonetheless sees it as abiding by the US Constitution; thus any law or laws in the state of Massachusetts would be in contradiction to federal laws and thereby unenforceable. Thomas hopes that legislation in Congress will dismantle the law at the federal level. In FAIR/GOOD condition. Upper portion of the front wrap torn away, with a loss of an area of about 3 ½ by 2 inches. Minor to moderate soiling to the wraps, with some offsetting and darkening. Small portions of the wraps missing from the spine. Minor creasing and edgewear, with a heavier area of tearing and creasing near the lower rear foot of the spine. Heavy darkening to the upper portion of the title page where the cover has been torn away. Minor toning and soiling in the interior. Faint dampstain affecting the upper margin of the last several pages. Bookseller Inventory # 003802
