Thick quarto. 799 pp. An important compilation of articles on Boston's history during the 1880-1930 period. A heavy volume especially bound in red morocco leather by the Harcourt Bindery in Boston and elaborately decorated in gold with five ribbed bands on the spine and the city seal stamped in gold on the front cover. Also stamped in gold on the cover is this lettering: "Presented to His Excellency Edmund Schulthess President of Switzerland by the Hon. James M. Curley Mayor of Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A." The inside covers are trimmed in decorated leather and the inside covers and end papers are in a dark red moire cloth. All edges gold. The 16 chapters include articles by representative Boston residents, including a tribute by Helen Keller; "The Winsor History" by M. A. DeWolfe Howe; "Boston Memories of Fifty Years" by Edwin D. Mead; "The Planning of a City" by Frederic H. Fay; "The Contribution of the Newer Races" by Willard de Lue; "The City Government" by A. Chester Hanford; "The Harbor and Shipping" by George C.
