About this Item

Hardcover, large octavo bound in red cloth, in original red, non price-clipped dust-jacket. 667 pages. Index. Illustrated with photographs and sketch maps. First edition, first printing. No previous ownership marks. Dust-jacket protected by acetate wrappers. The seventh, and last, volume of the army series of the official history of Australia in the Second World War. The present volume describes the operations of the First Australian Army in 1944-45 in Bougainville, New Britain, and Australian New Guinea, and of the 7th and 9th Divisions in Borneo-- the last great Allied offensive of the war. Also discussed, from Australia's point-of-view, is the final wartime problems of cooperation and consultation between major powers and one of their smaller partners.
