About this Item

quarto, 214pp. Vol. 9 in The Battle of the Little Big Horn Series. Most accounts of the Sioux War of 1876 report that Lt. James Bradley and his Indian scouts were the first to discover the dead on Custer's Battlefield and cite the source of this discovery as Bradley's Journal. However, most writers don't seem to realize that Bradley's Journal ends on June 26, 1876, a day before the bodies were actually found. Of course Bradley was there, but his letter to the Helena Herald on July 25, 1876, was where he made that claim. On the morning of June 27, 1876, about the same time that Bradley came upon the dead on Custer Hill, Sergeant Frederick Server, 2nd Cavalry with Crow Indian Old Crow found several bodies of Custer's soldiers down near the Little Big Horn River. There is much more information about Frederick E. Server's ten year military experience besides the Sioux Indian War of 1876. It includes Server's Journal of the 1876 - 1877 Exploration of the Snake River. His military experience also included Pursuit of the Nez Perce in 1877, and trouble with the Bannock and Cree Indians. Extensively illustrated with photographs. With one folding topographical map. With "errata" slip laid in. As new, at published price. original grey cloith stamped in gilt on spine, in pictorial dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 24473
