About this Item

Binding Copy. Ex-Library with library bookplates on both inner covers; a few library blindstamps to some pages; a light library stamp to some pages. The binding is cracked with the text block in several pieces. The front cover is detached. The spine has been covered with an unsightly black tape. The top 3/8 of an inch of the top margin of the frontispiece and the title page is lacking. The previous owner has inked his name onto the top of the title page and the author's name has been inked onto the lower part of the title page. (The author's name doesn't appear on the title page - just 'By A Lady Of Massachusetts"). Bound in the original publisher's tan paper-covered boards. I have lifted up a part of the black tape which covers the spine and edges of the covers and find that it peels off the top surface of the tan board, leaving an off-white board. Pagination: Frontispiece illustration - "Seat Of King Philip" with some browning around the scene and a corresponding browning to the facing title page; Title Page; (blank); iii-vi are the Introduction; pages 7-282 are the main text, one page Note to Page 201; (blank); 3 pages of publisher's book advertisements and a one page announcement that - "Apparatus For Infant Schools May Be Had of Munroe and Francis, Washington Street"; 2 original endpapers with some glue placed into the inner margin between the 2 leaves. Also, glue has been placed into the inner 1/2 inch margin of leaf iii/iv with the leaf almost fully detached along the glue line. The pages are quite clean and are still supple with occasional light foxing. There are no frontpapers. The covers have light edge wear with slightly worn corners. There is no date on the title page - I am assuming that this is the 1828 printing. Bookseller Inventory # 10846
