Synopsis: With a wizard helping him, a young man's fishing trips bring nothing but trouble
From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 1 Three short fishing tales that sound more like snatches of dreams than developed stories. In the first, the narrator, an unidentifiable animal, hooks a big one. It is so big that it will not fit in his house, so he calls on a wizard, who accidentally makes the fish so large that it destroys the angler's house. The other stories also find the sorcerer bungling attempts to help the fisherman. The layout of the book combines colorful boxed illustrations with text on each page. Although the pictures are childlike, they are also flat and homely. The wit in the stories is also contrived, trying at the same time to be simple enough for young readers, yet appealing to an adult sense of humor. This one tries hard, but misses the mark. Throw it back. Barbara C. Webber, Gordon-Barbour Elementary School, Gordonsville, Va.
