About this title

Synopsis:

A fist full of Stories ( and Articles) is somewhat different than the collections that have come before. I feel, that in a way, this is a sort of garage sale collection. I hope this doesn't sound too discouraging if you have put down money for this book. I do not mean it that way. This collection contains some of the odds and ends of my career that I don't mind seeing reprinted for followers of my work to examine... a few dusty, out of fashion, but not interesting items, as well as some real up to date business that has been neglected by readers or has appeared in lesser known magazines.

From Booklist:

It's not every crime writer who would put together a collection including a couple of terrifying short stories, a mock testimonial to Rush Limbaugh, and movie reviews of Elvis in Clam Bake, Rudy Ray Moore in The Human Tornado, and the John Huston version of The Bible. No, this uniquely odd hodgepodge is clearly the work of Joe R. Lansdale, whose climb from cult favorite to mainstream star continues apace. Typically, Lansdale's fiction dispenses equal doses of terror and humor, as is evident in "Bille Sue," in which our assumption that the narrator is a twisted psycho undergoes considerable revision along the way. Lansdale is seldom politically correct; he's never grasped the concept of authority; and his view of life is unfailingly graphic and profane. Not everything here ranks as his best stuff, but enough of it is first rate to ensure a fun read while we await his next full-length novel. Wes Lukowsky
