Book Description Norfolk, Connecticut: New Directions. First Edition, 1944. Series includes Eve Merriam, Jean Garrigue, Williams, John Frederick Nims and Alejandro Carrion (Equador). The selection presumably made by James Laughlin, the ND publisher. Pale yellow-tan cloth stamped in blue at spine and front cover, in dull grey dustwrapper printed in brown-black and dark blue. Book is Very Good, with offsetting to endpapers, but no wear to speak of; jacket is quite darkened at spine panel, else Very Good, and not price-clipped. No chips or tears. This constitutes Tennessee Williams's first book appearance, a 43 page sheaf of poems preceded by a brief three-page statement. It is well to remember that the world-class dramatist was first a poet, with a poet's proclivities and gifts, before he turned to the theatre. Bookseller Inventory # B124XC0AFB
