About this Item

A Good copy (owner's name), in an edge-rubbed Good dust jacket with a chip at the lower front spine fold. Heavy tanning/foxing at the top edge of the text block, clean within. Briefly inscribed and signed by the author at the title page. Laid in is a 6-page handwritten letter in envelope written by the author's wife to his mother in 1966. A little over two pages are reponses to apparent previous maternal criticism of the pace and direction of Gardner's novel, with references to his relationship with Thornton Wilder. An insightful letter accompanying a book uncommonly found signed (but note that the book is not inscribed to a family member, so book and letter were joined at some later date).
