The vegetation varies from semi-evergreen forests to Scrub jungles. The State has been explored intensively by the authors for plant wealth during last 14 years. All the herbaria in India have been searched for the plants of Andhra Pradesh. A total of about 2500 species of Angiosperms occur in the State. The first volume of Flora of Andhra Pradesh includes Introduction, Topography and General features, Forests and Vegetation, Past and present work, Key to the families and Systematic Enumeration of families Ranunculaceae to Alangiaceae. Bentham and Hooker's system of classification has been followed in the enumeration of families with certain exceptions to accommodate recent changes. A dichotomous indented key is given for families, genera and species. Nearly 2531 species under 700 genera and 125 families have been enumerated with brief description. Under each family key to the genera followed by the genus with its authority, key to the species followed by the species enumeration is given. The enumeration of species includes the complete citation according to ICBN, basionym, synonyms, followed by brief description, distribution in the state, flowering and fruiting period, vernacular name and specimens examined.
