George F. Cram produced this map for Crams Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World, published in 1885. This map of Florida illustrates counties, cities, towns, rail roads and topographical features. This map was originally published in the very hard to find Colombian Worlds Atlas. This atlas was published by the Chicago-based George F. Cram company to commemorate the 1893 World's Fair and Colombian Exposition. This map measures 9.25 by 12.75 inches. Seller Inventory # 49778

This colorful map was produced by George F. Cram in 1883, and appeared in "Crams Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World", Chicago Illinois. This early Cram map appears early in the mapmakers career, who was one of the first American map makers to start using Lithographic Coloring techniques. Lithographic color made for detailed and accurate coloring of maps. This state maps shows great detail including counties, cities and towns, lakes and rivers, mountains and other topographical marks, and most important the existing railroad net work in 1883. This map issued by the George F. Cram Company in 1901 is a wonderful example of Crams cartographic style and expertise. George F. Cram (1842-1928), served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. After the war ended, Cram joined his uncle Rufus Blanchard's Evanston, Ill. map business in 1867. Two years later, he became sole proprietor of the firm and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. which became a leading map firm and first American firm to publish a world atlas. One sheet (30 x 35 cm). 29 x 23.5 cm. (11 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches). Hand colored. Title inside oval cartouche. Scale 36 miles to 1 inch. Taken from "Cram's Illustrated Family Atlas of the World." There were numerous versions of the New Rail Road and County maps by published by Cram and Henry S. Stebbins, with later versions machine colored due to the expense of hand coloring. Phillips 901.
