About this title

The Florida Wildlife Corridor project is a collaborative vision to connect remaining natural lands, waters, working farms and ranches from the Everglades to Georgia, protecting a functional ecological corridor for the health of people and wildlife. The Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition, led by photographer Carlton Ward Jr, biologist Joe Guthrie, conservationist Mallory Lykes Dimmitt and filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus, was a 100 day, 1000 mile trek in early 2012 that explored the last remaining natural path through the length of the Florida peninsula. The journey will be featured in a film to debut nationally on Public Television in April, 2013.

From the Back Cover:

"Carlton Ward Jr is a true native son of Florida whose family has thrived in the state for generations. The Florida of his imaginings is not the coastal strips of concrete and high rises, strip malls and highways. It is the vast hinterland, the rivers of grass and the wild expanses where panthers prowl and flocks of birds still darken the sky. In this beautiful book, four explorers travel the length of the state, describing in their passage the outline of a continuous corridor that if protected could assure that wild Florida will never disappear, and that the native plants and animals that populated Carlton's imagination as a boy, as they did the dreams of his forefathers, will always be there to fire the hearts and spirits of generations of Floridians still waiting to be born."

- Wade Davis, National Geographic Explorer-in Residence, Author of The Serpent and the Rainbow and Into the Silence
