"Smithy" as Charles Kingsford Smith was known in Australia was a pioneer in civil aviation and a fighter pilot in WWi with 4 kills to his credit. Flew from California to Australia via Hawaii and Suva in 84 hours during 1928. Knighted in 1932 for his exploits.
