A fantastic late nineteenth century folding games board, created by Mudie & Sons. A very scarce folding games board by Mudie & Sons.Externally, the boards are covered in straight grain morocco. When opened, the green felt lining, intended for the playing of card games, is revealed.A metal clip is also present, which can be slipped into place over the hinges to lock the board into the open position. In this way, it could have been used during travel.Stamped 'Mudie & Sons, 15 Coventry St. W' to the fore edge of the front pastedown.The boards measure 40cm by 30cm when closed, and 40cm by 60cm when open.Dated c1890 via vendor address.A charming and very scarce recreational object produced by stationers, bookseller, publisher and seller of playing cards, bezique sets and other games. They sold a number of folding items for both domestic use and travel. A full straight grain morocco binding. Light rubbing to back strip and joint heads and tails. Minor area of paper residue to front board tail. Internally, boards fold out flat and are covered with green felt. Two minor holes to the felt at hinge. Metal clip loosely held over rear board.
