About this Item

"Ford Ranchero, 'More that a car, more than a truck.' This was how Ford introduced its pickup car November 12, 1956, in Quitman, Georgia. There had been pickup trucks based on cars long before, but the configuration of a one=-oiece cab and crago area was what made the Ranchero unique. Its appearance was that of a topless Ranch Wagon and, in reality, it was a topless Ranch Wagon. The Ranchero's styling inspired customizers, as revealed in the pages of old 'custom' magazines of the fifties and sixties. Ford's approach to design and ingenuity made the Ranchero's configuration simpler and less costly to produce than competitive makes. This makes the Ranchero's interchangeability with the variety of passenger cars on which it was based a real plus for its owners. Today, whether stock or custom, the Ranchero has become a very popular collectible. Twenty-three model years of Rancheros range from full-size to mid-size to compact. The collector can choose from pure economy to blood-thirsty performance. Even ultra-plush luxury versions were produced. the Ranchero has a lot to offer; it's more than a car, more than a truck." {Gene Michael Makrancy}. This book has 80 pages and is profusely illustrated. Bookseller Inventory # 060537
