About this Item

Ex Libris. 1st Edition. Folio (37 x 27 cm) Original green cloth. Collation: vi, [2], 151 p. + 20 chromolithographs. The binding has been re-cased after the text block was sewn. The original glue used dried and the text and plates separate. This is a common phenomenon for books of this era that were glued rather than sewn. The original text block has been sewn. All edges of are gilt. Institutional stamps present on free end paper and title page. The text and plates have some marginal spotting and dusting. The tipped in plates are free of any defects. This is a very good copy of a scarce book on trees, which include beech, oaks, and cedars after watercolors by Elphinstone, Walton, and Nutt. The chromolitographs were done by M. & N. Hanhart.
