About this Item

"The Forged Note" by Mrs. Hannah Maria Jones. Published by Jaques & Wright, London in 1826. First edition. A "moral Tale, founded on recent facts" in its original leather binding with four raised bands on the spine and gold gilding along the spine and the edges of the boards. As described by the publisher: "The Forged Note is a Tale replete with interest and instruction. The difficulties and dangers to which youth is exposed, when thrown upon the world without guide or protector, are delineated with a truth and boldness of colouring that bespeaks the Author to have painted from life; and while the distresses of the hero of the story cannot fail to interest, nor the variety of character introduced to amuse, we are gratified by the triumph of nature and real feeling in the person of the gentle heroine, over the allurements and blandishments of her more dazzling but less amiable rival. The distinction between true and genuine love, and selfish passion, is well defined: and all who have read this work, have consider it the best production of this interesting writer." The book is in very good minus condition. There are moderate scratches and blemishes along the front and rear boards and moderate wear along the spine. There is moderate to heavy foxing to the front and rear paste-downs and end papers, moderate foxing to title and copyright page, and minor foxing throughout the text block. The text-block remains tight and the gold gilding is well-preserved. A beautiful, almost two century old book. No other copies are currently available for sale online.
