Synopsis: Christian, is there some crime, some diminishment, some dishonor that you have not been able to forgive? Bring it to The Forgiveness Labyrinth. In 2009, Dr. Senyard set up a very crude Forgiveness Labyrinth at a church men’s retreat. Many of the men who took the 1½ hour guided journey through the nine “duct tape and Christmas light” stations testified that they experienced significant forgiveness for hurts they were carrying. Encouraged by the results, Dr. Senyard set up the Forgiveness Labyrinth in the basement of his church as part of a sermon series on Biblical forgiveness. This time almost 100 men and women went through the Labyrinth. Over 60% reported that they had experienced significant freedom—some for decades old crimes. In 2012, Dr. Senyard did his doctoral dissertation on the Forgiveness Labyrinth as a forgiveness intervention device for Christians. Surprisingly, the Labyrinth ranked #2 in effectiveness compared to 25 other professionally constructed, well-funded, costly, time consuming secular and Christian interventions. What makes the Labyrinth unique? Senyard notes that biblically, God never forgives crimes until they are actually paid for. That’s the essence of the work of Christ on the Cross after all. So why do we typically expect victims to forgive perpetrators without first experiencing real justice? Are victims more magnanimous than God? They just can’t do it. The Forgiveness Labyrinth book imaginatively invites Christian victims into the same liturgical experience: a day in God’s courtroom for the specific crime committed against them. Victim, your heart has been crying out for your rightful day in court. Come to the Forgiveness Labyrinth. Bring a specific crime or hurt that you just cannot let go of. The moment that you enter you become an honored plaintiff in the trial called on your behalf.
