From the inside dj flap -- "Forgotten Fatherland is a superb account of a journey to one of the last lost places of the world, as well as a chilling portrait of one of the most extraordinary figures of the past century. In 1886 Elisabeth Nietzsche, sister of the famous philosopher and friend of wagner, traveled with a select group of blond-haired, blue-eyed Germans to the remote Paraguayan wilderness to found an Aryan colony she called New Germany. Over a hundred years later, Ben Macintyre found the descendants of those first settlers, still living in Nueva Germania: breeding among themselves, many have maintained the language, customs and ideals that first brought their ancestors from Europe." This story reads like a novel and proves that fact is stranger than fiction. Bookseller Inventory # 001151

Synopsis: The book is about the founding of a proto-Nazi colony in the Paraguayan jungle that still survives today. It is the remains of a colonial racial experiment carried out by Elizabeth Nietzsche, sister of the famous philosopher. Its inhabitants are German Lutherans, blond-haired, blue-eyed; its streets bear names lie Goebbelsstrasse. "Forgotten Fatherland" is a travel book as well as a biography that chronicles the history of the colony, and examines the life and influence of the woman who was Hitler's mentor and her brother's self-appointed literary executor, who ruthlessly expunged from Nietzsche's work anything that did not concur with her own beliefs.

About the Author: Ben Macintyre is a columnist and Associate Editor on The Times. He has worked as the newspaper's correspondent in New York, Paris and Washington. He is the author of nine books including Agent Zigzag, shortlisted for the Costa Biography Award and the Galaxy British Book Award for Biography of the Year 2008, the number 1 bestseller Operation Mincemeat and, most recently, the Richard & Judy Book Club selection, Double Cross. He lives in London with his wife and three children.
