Some soiling and minor stains, rubbing to extremities with minor chipping along joints and edges, corners bumped, boards slightly bowed, front hinge cracked. Moderate toning, occasional foxing, dampstaining in some places, minor edgewear to endleaves, small worm holes to fore-edges through p. 46 with no loss to text. A solid copy of a scarce edition. $750. * First edition. From the establishment of the legal profession onward, a notary was an important legal officer in Continental law with a role analogous to a present-day English solicitor. This treatise was written for notaries in the Kingdom of Naples. A second edition followed in 1789-90. The third edition, its last was issued in 1798, a year before the establishment of French rule under Napoleon. In 1816 it became one of the two parts of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which became the largest and wealthiest of the Italian states before unification. All editions are scarce. OCLC locates 1 copy in North America (at UC-Berkeley Law School, which has a third edition). Not in the British Museum Catalogue. Bookseller Inventory # 60141
