This impressive collection of maps was published by the Kenyon Map Company of Des Moines Iowa as a promotional item for The Knickerbocker Press. Three double-sided sheets are affixed to a metal rod for public display - ready to illuminate an American audience about global political realities after the Versailles Treaty (1919). The first sheet presents a map of the world highlighting the spider web of oceanic shipping lanes that resumed full operation in peacetime. Five continental maps at the bottom highlight the dispersion of former German colonies, while the top of the bold page is occupied by depictions of 'The Four Great Motive Powers of the Present Century.' The opposite side of the first page presents a history of American flight, with accompanying statistics, facts, and photographs. The third image (second sheet) starts with a political map of Europe outlining the border changes and new nations formed from the conditions of the Treaty of Versailles. A road map of the United States, an index of New York cities, and a state map of New York (with inset of New York City) all follow, in that order. Heavy wear and tearing along the bottom, with the first page worst affected. Moderate toning from age has resulted in a somewhat brittle piece, with creasing, cracks, and small tears throughout. The image and text remain almost entirely intact, with vibrant color. About good condition overall.
