A collection of papers written on the state of forests in Maine, discussing the river systems of Maine and their relation to the timber industry; enemies of the forest, including wasteful cutting, winds and fires, with historical sketches of notable fires and heavy wind storms that damaged Maine forests; principles of practical forestry; and a lengthy section of conclusions and recommendations for the health of Maine forests. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy uneven mottling and fading to the covers. Minor soiling, rubbing and edgewear. Moderate dampstain affecting the fore edge margin of the last 1/3 of the book, with some pinkish discoloration from the cloth affecting the last several pages. Minor toning to the paper.
