About this Item

First edition: Nearly 4000 lines of Homer's Iliad in one of its then-earliest known forms, discovered lurking beneath a Syriac treatise of Severus and here edited by William Cureton, the discoverer. The volume closes with six lithographed facsimiles showing both levels of writing on the manuscript leaves. This is the true first edition, not a modern reprint. Folio extra (39 cm, 15.4"). xix, [1], 129, [1] pp.; 6 facsimiles. NSTC 2H27953. Publisher's blue textured cloth, spine with gilt-stamped title; board edges and spine much sunned, corners bumped, spine extremities rubbed, spine cloth with one split excellently repaired. Front hinge (inside) neatly reinforced. Front pastedown with bookseller's small ticket, title-page institutionally pressure-stamped. Sewing loosening. Two pages with small paper adhesion partially obscuring a total of four letters. Pages and facsimile plates clean. Bookseller Inventory # 27525
