Synopsis:

In Francisco Pizarro and His Brothers, Rafael Varón Gabai breaks fresh ground in his reconstruction of the Pizarros’ conquest as a new form of business enterprise, built up by Francisco Pizarro both to conduct government and to manage his family’s exploitation of Peru.

The private nature of the Pizarro enterprise, together with the public political support it received at first from the Spanish Crown, allowed Pizarro to build an organization of several hundred people.

About the Author:

Rafael Varen Gabai has taught Latin American history in England, the United States, and Peru and presently is researcher at the Institute for Peruvian Studies in Lima. He is the author of a book and numerous articles on sixteenth-and seventeenth-century Andean history and ethno-history.

Book Description University of Oklahoma Press, United States, 1997. Hardback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. In Francisco Pizarro and His Brothers, Rafael Varon Gabai breaks fresh ground in his reconstruction of the Pizarro s conquest as a new form of business enterprise, built up by Francisco Pizarro both to conduct government and to manage his family s exploitation of Peru. Extensive research in more than a dozen private and public archives in Spain, England, Peru, and Bolivia enabled Varon Gabai to reconstruct a picture of the Pizarros transatlantic organization and to flesh out the hundreds of people and the vast resources that formed their patrimony in America. Varon Gabai concludes that the Pizarros enterprise cannot be described as seigneurial or dynastic. Rather, it arises as a new Hispanic American model. Bookseller Inventory # AAS9780806128337
