About this Item

"Frank Fairlegh" by Frank E. Smedley. Also known as "Scenes from the Life of a Private Pupil." Published by A. Hall, Virtue, & Co. in London circa 1860. This is an early printing of the first edition and lacks the "London, 1850" at the end of the preface present on the first state. Published anonymously, only the books illustrator, George Cruikshank (a friend of and illustrator for Charles Dickens), is credited. The book is quarter bound in brown leather and has four raised bands and gold gilding on the spine. It is in good plus condition with wear to the extremities and spine and discoloration along the boards. There is heavy foxing to the front leaf and moderate to minor foxing throughout the text block.
