Description:

This Book is in Good Condition. Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 100% Guaranteed. Summary: The Boeing 747 is minutes from inflicting a nuclear event of Hiroshima proportions on Los Angeles! Can the man hand-picked by the President unravel the web of espionage, extortion and smoldering revenge in time? United States National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden rocks the White House to its foundation when he provides secret NSA documents to the Washington Post alleging that the U.S. gathers telephone and email records of its citizens and electronically spies on its international neighbors. President Garrison Cross and the U.S. face unyielding condemnation from leaders around the world and Democrats and Republicans alike at home. If Cross needs any more heat it comes when he learns that a CIA mole has outmaneuvered the FBI and a Russian scientist has escaped from a closed Soviet weapons factory known as Kremlyov with a cache of weapons-grade nuclear material, whereabouts unknown. The besieged President jerks the FBI out of the loop and brings in Cam Warfield, a darkside intel veteran who runs a counterterrorism training center for the Army and lives with the beautiful Dr. Fleming DeGrande on her ranch in suburban Virginia. But the vengeful FBI director pulls the rug from under Warfield and the nukes end up in treacherous hands. Then just crucial minutes off the coast of Los Angeles a duplicate of the Hiroshima atom bomb sits in the belly of a Boeing 747 traveling at 500 miles an hour. With minutes left before disaster Warfield believes he can convince the pilot to abort but it is then that he confronts his biggest and most unexpected challenge yet: the very man who commissioned him, who's sitting in the Oval Office in Washington, D.C.! More than once Warfield narrowly escapes death as the case leads him to Tokyo and Vegas, Paris and Atlantic City-where he runs headlong into the mole's lair. Bookseller Inventory #

Synopsis: #1 Amazon Best Seller in Espionage

From the Prologue...

BORIS PETREVICH LOOKED AT his hands. No tremor. Better than his insides as the seconds ticked down on his digital watch, synchronized precisely with another digital timepiece three thousand feet from there. No matter his maplike brainshot of the Kremlyov compound, his familiarity with the security safeguards, his encyclopedic knowledge of bomb-grade nuclear materials or his once-elite status within the Kremlin--those factors combined held no guarantee that his plan that night would succeed. But there was no turning back now... His only weapon, if it became needed at the checkpoint, was the World War II-vintage Russian TT-33 7.62 mm semi-automatic pistol he'd been issued years ago. His once-fine shooting skills were gone now but any use of the pistol required at the checkpoint would be at close range...

When U.S. President Cross learns of Petrevich's escape from Kremlyov, Russia, where the leftover Soviet nuclear stockpile is stored he enlists counterintelligence operative Cam Warfield to track down the missing uranium before its unknown purpose becomes reality. Warfield long ago left spy work and now spends his downtime with Fleming DeGrande on her ranch outside Washington but he accepts the assignment. His mine-laden search exposes a plot from unexpected quarters that threatens disaster of Hiroshima proportions on the U.S. mainland.

When Warfield suspects one of the most powerful figures in Washington as the mole behind it, the full wrath of U.S. security forces is released in numerous attempts to eliminate not the mole but Warfield himself.
Q&A with author Nick Ganaway

Q: This is your first novel. Why did you decide to write a novel after your career as a business owner?NG: I have long loved the thriller genre. I believed that if I could write a story that met my criteria for a good thriller, other thriller readers would like it as well. The reviews so far are encouraging.

Q: What are some of your thriller criteria?NG: I'm not a fan of gratuitous explosions and superhuman events, so my characters are people you might read about in the New York Times or meet at a cocktail party. Historical places and events need to work. Grammar needs to be right.

Q: What adjectives would you apply to your book?NG: Adjectives. Well, I would say the plot is plausible, the characters have depth, and the story moves along with anticipation. But not so quickly that you don't feel the context. In 'To Free A Spy' all of the threads and subplots eventually come together.

Q: How did you prepare to begin writing a novel for the first time?NG: A lifetime of reading thrillers and other genres of course, as background. Once I started writing 'To Free A Spy,' I alternated between putting words on paper and studying the art and craft for three years.

Q: Sounds easy.NG: Not so much. I ended up with an unremarkable manuscript in both story and structure. Several years later, in need of a demanding pursuit after the loss of my wife to cancer, I sought and received some excellent literary advice, wrote a new beginning for 'Spy,' changed the sequence of some of the events, gave the characters new depth, and brought all of the elements of the story to a conclusion I was happy with.

Q: Where does your protagonist, Cam Warfield, come from:NG: Cam comes from a humble background but he makes life happen. Career Army intel. He loves his work. He's a patriot. He makes a difference. And he has a wonderful, intelligent girlfriend, Fleming DeGrande. But Cam has his shortcomings that can get in his way.

Q: Will Warfield show up in another novel?NG: Yes, he has a new challenge in the novel in progress.

About the Author: Nick Ganaway is an avid reader of the likes of Daniel Silva, John Grisham, Michael Connelly, Ben Macintyre, David Baldacci, Don Winslow, Ken Follett, Vince Flynn, Nelson DeMille and so many others of the genre, as well as true accounts of military special operations. Nick lives in Dunwoody, GA, and has three loving children and five beautiful grandchildren.
