About this title

A thoroughly contemporary approach to teaching essential engineering graphics skills has made Fundamentals of Graphics Communication the leading textbook in introductory engineering graphics courses. The sixth edition continues to integrate design concepts and the use of CAD into its outstanding coverage of the basic visualization and sketching techniques that enable students to create and communicate graphic ideas effectively.

As in past editions, the authors have included many examples of how graphics communication pertains to "real-world" engineering design, including current industry practices and breakthroughs. A website provides additional resources such as an image library, animations, and quizzes.

From the Publisher:

The methodical nature of drawing techniques is highlighted through the use of Step-by-step Technique boxes throughout the text.
CAD reference icons throughout the text allow the user to link to an accompanying CAD manual, such as Leach's AutoCAD texts or Kelley's Pro/Engineer texts.
The CD-ROM that comes free with the text has been greatly improved. The CD contains additional design case studies, animations of important concepts, additional problems, interesting web links, AutoCAD drawing problems, etc.
An exciting selection of industrial application boxes have been added. Students are exposed to the design process by reading about products such as the Bombardier Sea-Doo XT, the Motorola i1000 cellular phone, a snowboard helmet, a lacrosse stick, etc. Students will learn that design is often a team-oriented, iterative process, beginning with a very rough sketch of an idea.
Increased coverage of 3D modeling and the design process has been added, especially in chapters 2 and 5. Also, a Design Problem is part of each chapter.
Sketching techniques have been integrated into more chapters throughout the book.
