About this Item

This is an 8 page supplement to the "Illustrated London News" for July 11, 1903 with the magazine. After the subtitle - "By Lieutenant E. H. Shackleton, One Of The Three Officers Who Reached The Most Southerly Latitude Yet Attained". The other two were Captain Scott and Dr. Wilson. The issue of this magazine is a never-bound single issue. This 8 page supplement is loosely inserted into the magazine. It measures 11-7/8 inches by 16-1/4 inches. Clean and crisp with slight wrinkling and a few small closed tears to the edges. There are 5 photographs by E. H. Shackleton and an additional 3 photographs of the sledges, 2 while the dogs were still alive and the last was taken after all the dogs had died. There are a sketch of the men's quarters, the ward room, and a group of penguins. The last page has 3 reproductions of pages from the "South Polar Times" of 1902. This article was continued into the next issue of this magazine which I do not have. Bookseller Inventory # 11242
