About this Item

1965, xii, 399pp, index, illustrated. Very light wear, else VG in VG dj. Henry Giles was the husband of Kentucky author, Janice Holt Giles. As a soldier in the 291st Combat Engineers during the Second World War, he took part in the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and the building of the bridge across the Rhine at Remagen. During those years he kept a journal, which his wife has supplemented with letters he wrote to her, and with accounts by some of the other men in the battalion, plus explanatory notes of her own which give an overall picture of the war's progress.
