About this title
An intimate portrayal of the life of the reluctant movie queen discusses her troubled childhood in Sweden, her arrival in Hollywood, her relationships with men and women, and her self-imposed exile
From Library Journal:. . . . Or at least women who excited the quirky interest of the late Forbes. Some of the obvious historical figures are here--Mme. de Pompadour, Boadicea, Mother Jones--along with a number of not so obvious choices--Elsa Maxwell, Julia Morgan (who designed San Simeon), Felix Mendelssohn's sister Fanny, who was thought to be a better composer than he was, Typhoid Mary, the Tory hostess who inadvertently saved the Revolutionary Army from capture, the most famous female miser, etc. The oddity of the selection process makes this not really usable for reference, but the three-to-four-page sketches make interesting reading.
