About this Item

1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 1997. Artist Book. The artist/photographer's breakthrough debut collection. The Softcover Limited Edition of 1000 copies. Published simultaneously with the Hardcover Limited Edition as a softcover original that sold out shortly after publication. The Softcover Limited Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Gary Schneider: Regular-sized volume format. Pristine-white softcovers, as issued. Photographs by Gary Schneider. There is no text. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In pristine-white integral DJ with black titles on spine and large flaps, as issued. Published on the occasion of the landmark exhibition of the same name held at the Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago in 1997. Presents Gary Schneider's "John In Sixteen Parts". Extreme close-ups of the model John Erdman's various body parts (of his face), lovingly, probingly, and "scientifically" photographed by Gary Schneider (Erdman is the artist/photographer's longtime companion). Both the concept and its realization are brilliant, resulting in imagery that is strikingly original, "Conceptual" photography that is imagined rather than conceived, the work of an artist/photographer who has somehow given us a rare glimpse into the human soul, in all its beauty, pain, and "materiality", through photographs of the human body. An absolute "must-have" title for Gary Schneider collectors. This copy is one of the Softcover Limited Edition of 1000 copies, and it is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in pencil on the title page by Gary Schneider. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. In addition, it is also very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in pencil by John Erdman. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is one of only two such double-signed copies of the Softcover Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Schneider did NOT sign most copies of the Softcover Limited Edition whereas Erdman was not supposed to sign any copies at all. A rare signed copy thus. 16 plates. One of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER GARY SCHNEIDER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1887593063. Bookseller Inventory # 2603
