About this Item

Divers paginations, though ~ 900 pp. No. 220 with fold-out: "Table specifying the money value of Clothing Allowed to the Army of the United States." 8vo. A nearly complete run of 330 War Department General Orders for the year of 1864. The volume lacks 109, 134 252, 254, 256 & 299. No. 106 is represented by a republishing as HQ, Department of the Gulf General Order 116. Included are two memoranda, date 1 May 1864, which assigns Court Martials & Transfer of Veterans orders to a different system. Nos 49 & 50 are duplicated, i.e., each bound-in twice. Most orders reflect the general nature of administering an army. assignments, court martials, etc. Though that said, a couple I note with interest. No. 260, 21 September 1864, revises payment processes for job printing. No. 296, 2 December 1864, concerns "stores and school-books" for freedmen. Nos. 128, 232, 233, & 302 are Proclamations by Abraham Lincoln, with No. 232 suspending writ of habeas corpus in Kentucky. All-in-all, a wonderful resource documenting the administration of the Union Army for the year. General wear & scuffing to binding. Front joint starting top 1". An About VG copy. Bespoke binding, in 'law style', i.e., full tan sheep with black leather spine labels. Binder label to front paste-down: "From / Peter O'Donnell / Stationer, Printer / & / Blank Book Manufacturer, / 16 Camp St. / New Orleans". NB. Binder instructions penciled in top margin of No. 220.
