8vo. 8.25 x 5.25 inches. viii + 333 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, with gilt block of arms within borders on front board. Rough cut edges. Wear at head and tail of darkened spine, with a few small splits; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 35 plates, including portrait frontispiece, protected by tissue guard, maps and facsimiles and by 9 text figures, including head and tailpiece vignettes. A biography of George Washington (1732-99), first President of the United States, by Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924), who served as twenty eighth President, 1913-21. Before entering national politics, Wilson had an academic career and was professor of Jurisprudence and Political Economy at Princeton, later becoming President of the University The title was first published in 1896 and this undated edition could have appeared from the period of Wilson's presidency or soon afterwards. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
