Later Cloth. 8vo. X, 90 pages. 25 cm. First edition. In German. 'History of the Jews of Mulhausen'. Offprint of Bulletin du Musee historique de Mulhouse; Also authors dissertation at Basel, 1913. One folded leaf at rear. This volume appears to be the first major monograph on the history of the Jewish community of Mulhausen (Mulhouse) , a town in Eastern Alsace; the 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia listed the first Jewish residents from the time of the French Revolution; this in fact is completely disproved by Adler's documentation of local and rabbinic sources, which shows that the first known Jewish residents were in Mulhausen in the thirteenth century; this information is reflected in the 2008 Encyclopedia Judaica; and copiously documented in Adler's history. At the time of publication of this volume Mulhausen was part of Imperial Germany. Subjects: Jews - Alsace - Mulhouse. Jews. France - Mulhouse. Later endpages aged; internally clean and fresh. Very good condition. (GER-44-18). Bookseller Inventory #
